Itinerary
Day 1: Bairro Alto & Sunset Views
We’ll meet you at Lisbon Portela Airport and transfer to our hotel. After settling in, we’ll dive into the charismatic energy of the city starting with the Bairro Alto district. Known for its bohemian atmosphere, we’ll explore its narrow streets before enjoying a breathtaking sunset from one of the city’s famous miradouros (viewpoints), like São Pedro de Alcântara, offering a spectacular panorama of the city and the river.
Day 2: Oceanarium & Modern Architecture
Today we explore Lisbon’s modern side with a visit to the stunning Parque das Nações, the site of the 1998 World Expo. The highlight is the Oceanário de Lisboa, one of the largest and most impressive aquariums in Europe. Walking through its massive central tank feels like being on the ocean floor. The area’s contemporary architecture, including the Vasco da Gama Bridge and Tower, provides a sharp and fascinating contrast to the city’s ancient heart.
Day 3: Alfama’s Soul & São Jorge’s Castle
We’ll spend the day getting lost in the Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest district. This maze of medieval streets, filled with the sound of Fado music drifting from tiny restaurants, is the historic soul of the city. We’ll climb up to the mighty São Jorge Castle, which has guarded the city for centuries. From its ramparts, students will be rewarded with the most magnificent views of Lisbon’s red-tiled roofs and the wide Tagus River, understanding the city’s strategic importance.
Day 4: Boat to Belém’s Monuments
We’ll take a boat trip along the Tagus River to the district of Belém, from where Portugal’s great explorers set sail. Here, we’ll visit the iconic Belém Tower and the magnificent Jerónimos Monastery, both UNESCO World Heritage sites and stunning examples of the Manueline architectural style that celebrates the Age of Discoveries. No visit is complete without tasting the original pastéis de Belém, the world-famous custard tarts.
Day 5: Sintra’s Fairytale Palaces & Departure
On our final day, we take a day trip to the magical town of Sintra. Nestled in the forested hills, we’ll explore the colorful Pena Palace, a Romanticist castle that looks like it’s straight out of a fairytale. After soaking in the enchanting atmosphere, we’ll return to Lisbon for our transfer to the airport, ending our journey through Portuguese history and beauty.
